Hot Coals is a young company formed from a cooperative of steam enthusiasts and toolmakers. They work together to create steam locomotives which are built on a monthly basis. Each kit is supplied monthly, easing the financial burden of a large one off payment. This allows steam enthusiasts to build running steam locos at home. Keeping overheads low has meant it's possible to build quality locos at a competitive price, which has been augmented by embracing modern production techniques to speed up manufacturing and product quality.
Having years of experience with loco kits, it's been obvious where mistakes have been made in marketing locos as kits without building a prototype or losing control of production and quality by using foreign sources.
Locomotive kits have a tarnished image and naturally not suitable for some. It's a fact that there isn't a steam locomotive in the world that hasn't been built from a kit*
Needless to say many model engineers will not entertain the concept of purchasing a loco kit but steam enthusiasts who don't have expensive workshop machinery, engineering skills and many thousands of hours of spare time, form the core of our customers. Having siad that we are proud to be supplying B1 parts to one of Edward Thompsons relatives and a wide spectrum of hard core model engineers who want a quicker build.
